The area around Ciuperca Lake has always been a place for relaxation and leisure activities for the residents of Tulcea. Located near the Tulcea Railway Station, this place has once again become a point of attraction, not only for locals, but also for visitors, with the completion of a large-scale project by the Tulcea Municipality Local Council.

The project aimed at rehabilitating and modernizing the lake, which covers an area of 25 hectares, as well as the park around it. The works were carried out between December 12, 2007 and July 24, 2010, and the official inauguration took place in the presence of local and county authorities.

The ecological redevelopment of the lake was carried out by the company SC Deltacons Tulcea SA, with financial support from the Environmental Fund Agency and the Tulcea Municipality City Hall. The project included dredging the lake bottom to a depth of 2.5 meters, with the storage of the pumped sludge, the arrangement of the banks, as well as landscaping and equipping the surrounding area: access roads, public lighting, green spaces, recreational areas both on water and on land.

In the lake area, a beach, promenade areas, sports fields, shower cabins, modern toilets, places specially designated for water sports competitions, playgrounds for children, a gazebo, sun loungers, umbrellas and a bike path were arranged. The lake is equipped with two artesian fountains, one of which has a decorative role and a water jet that reaches 20 meters in height. You can also practice windsurfing here.

On the lake's island, both city residents and tourists have the opportunity to enjoy various fish-based dishes and other menus daily at the Ciuperca Restaurant, located in the middle of the lake.

The municipal authorities plan to build a lock that will connect the lake to the Danube, so that the small tourist port in the area can receive cruise ships visiting the Danube Delta.
