The Cibin or Cindrel mountains stand out due to their smooth relief. Due to the relatively low altitude in general, the spectacular character of the glacial formations is less pronounced, but they present a distinct tourist interest, exemplified by the caldera that shelter the Iezerul Mare glacial lakes (with an area of 3 hectares and a depth of 13.30 meters) and Iezerul Mic. These lakes are located in a complex cirque, accompanied by small adjacent calderas, in a wild landscape.
The mentioned mountains are characterized by a monotony highlighted by the succession of long summits, oriented from the main peak, the Cindrel peak (2244 m), towards the northeast, crossing the depression of Apoldu and Săliștea, to the border with them, where the distance reaches only 900 of meters.
The slopes of the valleys are covered with forests, and on the broad summit, at altitudes exceeding 2000 meters, you can find extensive meadows. These meadows offer ideal conditions for the practice of shepherding, an activity specific to the inhabitants of Marginima Sibiului. Due to the favorable conditions for herding, as well as the ease of maintenance on the long mountain tops, in addition to the wealth of forests and other natural resources, the Cibin Mountains have experienced a strong human influence. In the area of marginal villages, pastures and hayfields are adorned with houses, mansions, huts, stables and stables.
