Built in 1900, the Continental Hotel occupied the site of the former Broft Hotel, where General Osman Pasha, the commander of the Ottoman army defeated in Plevna in 1877-1878, was held prisoner.

On the ground floor of this building was the Hugues restaurant, with a specific French cuisine.
