The building, built in baroque style with an art nouveau facade at the beginning of the 20th century, belonged to the famous Mița Biciclista, by her real name, Maria Mihăescu, the daughter of a washerwoman born in 1885 in Dițeşti, Prahova county.
She was one of the most famous prostitutes of the interwar period who, although she came from a poor family, became a cultured young woman and learned in boarding houses abroad, which is why she had clients and lovers of very important people such as King Leopold of Belgium.
She was courted by famous men such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Octavian Goga and even King Ferdinand who is said to have given her this house as a gift.
She acquired the name Mița Biciclista after she was seen by the journalist George Ranetti riding a bicycle on Calea Victoriei in 1898.
