The church was built between 1928-1930 by the architect Mario Stoppa and Giuseppe Tiraboschi in the style of Romanesque basilicas.

After the arrival of an Italian priest in the capital was announced, it was decided to build a church of its own with the support of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Italy in Bucharest, Baron Carlo Fasciotti.
