Măgura Odobești is a protected area recognized as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), located in the eastern part of Romania, in Vrancea County.


This natural area is located in the central part of Vrancea County, extending over the territory of several communes: Bolotești, Broșteni, Jariștea, Mera, Reghiu and Valea Sării. It is located near the national road DN2A, which connects the municipality of Focșani and the city of Târgu Secuiesc.


Măgura Odobești was designated a Special Protection Area for Birds by Government Decision no. 1284 of 24 October 2007. This decision regulates the inclusion of special protection areas for birds in the European ecological network Natura 2000, and the total area of ​​the site is 13,164.7 hectares.


This protected area is part of the continental geographical bioregion, being located between the Putna and Milcov rivers. The area encompasses a variety of natural ecosystems, including rivers, pastures, deciduous forests and cultivated arable land. These habitats provide favourable conditions for the feeding, nesting and survival of several species of birds, whether migratory, passing or sedentary, included in Annex I of the European Council Directive 2009/147/EC of 30 November 2009, which concerns the conservation of wild birds.


Several protected bird species have been observed in this area, including: the caprimulgus (Caprimulgus europaeus), the black grouse (Tetrastes bonasia), the white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos), the oak woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius), the garden woodpecker (Dendrocopos syriacus), the winter falcon (Falco columbarius), the collared flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis), the little flycatcher (Ficedula parva), the bonito finch (Hieraaetus pennatus), a species included on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the tree lark (Lullula arborea), the buzzard (Pernis apivorus) and the green woodpecker (Picus canus).
