The Ilie Niculescu-Dorobanțu House, a building in Bucharest built between 1910-1913, which combines the Neo-Gothic and French Neo-Renaissance styles. The building is influenced by French architecture and attempts to replicate Louis XII's château in the Loire Valley.
The house was built for Tațiana Niculescu-Dorobanțu, daughter of Ion C. Brătianu, and was furnished with luxury objects, historical furniture and elegant interior decorations. In the interwar period, the building was also used as the headquarters of the PNL. After the Second World War, the building suffered neglect and was used for various purposes, including a canteen for employees of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and Machine Construction. Since 1958, it hosted the Secondary Technical Choreography School, where 300 students studied.
Since the 90s, the building has been involved in a legal process of retrocession and has been affected by the lack of restoration and reconsolidation interventions. It is currently for sale but there are concerns about the fate of the building, and significant restoration and strengthening would be required to save it. If measures are not taken, there is a risk that this unique building in the architectural landscape of Bucharest will be destroyed or suffer the same fate as the Vila lui Spiru Haret, located nearby.
